Event Summary
On August 25 to September 2, 2007, over 80 church musicians in Edmonton, Alberta, came together to learn about worship and church music at the 5th Annual Heart and Art Church Music Training. Heart and Art Church Music Training is an annual week-long intensive choir music program in Edmonton with the objective to improve the “heart” and “art” qualities of church musicians.

The theme for this year’s training is “Glorifying and Edifying”. Emphasis of our training is on educating participants theologically-sound worship and church music. We also encourage servant leaders to minister through music, and hence achieve the ultimate goal of glorifying God, and edifying fellow brothers and sisters.
Special speaker and conductor of this year’s training is Dr. Philip H. Chan, Associate Professor of church music at the Hong Kong Baptist Seminary. in addition, 4 faculty members of the School of Music in Concordia College also served as workshop instructors, they are Dr. Joy Berg, Eva Bostrand, Dr. John Hooper and Dr. Ping-Shan Liao.

This year’s training program is very comprehensive and consists of voice training, pianist training, conducting training, worship leading, scriptures dramatization, basic handbell, music theory, choral rehearsal, and seminars on various topic of the worship and church music ministry.

As the culmination of the training week, all participants formed a joint church choir of 80-voice, and presented at the Praise Ye My Heart Concert on September 2. Over 600 brothers and sisters attended this special concert event to worship and praise God through music.
