The "4th Annual Heart and Art Church Music Training -- Pursuing Excellence", organized by the Edmonton Chinese Christian Choir, has been held on September 30-October 8, 2006. We have over 80 participants from 10 Chinese churches from all around Edmonton area who joined the training event, it is truly a blessing to see brothers and sisters come together and equip themselves in the church music ministry. The training program consisted of choral training, orchestra training, conducting master class, seminar and workshops on the topics of sight-singing, vocal and worship leading. Workshop instructors were Stephen Tam and So-Ling Tam (Edmonton Chinese Alliance Church ), and, Elaine Chu and Grace Chan (Edmonton Chinese Baptist Church ), guest conductor for the joint choir and orchestra was Herbert Tsang, music director of Vancouver' David C. Lam Christian Hymn Society.

Under the tutelage of this high caliber faculty, the participants gained not only knowledge but also specific skills that will aid their church music ministry. As Herbert Tsang said in the seminar, titled "Pursuing excellence in church music ministry", excellence is never an accident, it is the intentional and sincere effort to seek improvement every time. Excellence is also not perfectionism, instead, it is the result of the continuous outpouring of our love to the almighty God. Furthermore, Herbert urged church musicians to always think about tomorrow, in doing so, resources and training should be planned from both short term and long term approaches so to prepare us to face tomorrow's challenges, and thus, keep improving the church music ministry as a result. Besides being an excellent learning opportunity, the training event was also a wonderful occasion for Christians from different churches to fellowship and praise God as one united body.

The conclusion of this training was the 2nd City-Wide Joint Church Worship Service "Prayers for the City", which was held on Sunday, October 8, 2006, 7:30 pm at Edmonton Chinese Christian Church (8810-65 Ave). At the worship service, all training participants formed a 90-member Joint Church Choir and Orchestra and served as the Worship Leading Choir.
